Click for full-size imageThe prolific librettist Pietro Metastasio, active in Italy for much of the 18th century, authored a number of popular works on Chinese topics, including Le Cinesi and L’eroe Cinese. Several of his libretti were so popular that they were set multiple times by different composers.
